Searsport Elementary School was built in 1991. If you visit our school you will see it reflects our coastal heritage.
Murals, paintings, and sculpture depict the ocean, and tiles on the outside of the
school are of ocean animals. We currently have approximately 180 students in grades
K-5. We also house the Waldo County Preschool program and have one class
of 3 year olds and 3 classes of 4 year olds. There are about 40 children in the preschool program.
Our
students have art, music including chorus for grades 4 & 5 and band
for grade 5, library and P.E. weekly. Teachers have access to a 14
station computer room. This year our school will be getting 30 laptops on portable carts that
will be able to move from class to class. Our library has over 8,300
titles. Click on the library link and see what our library has to
offer.
We have a guidance counselor (who is shared with the two other
elementary schools in our district) in the building two days a week,
who provides classroom, small group, and individual guidance. Our
guidance program works to support the academic needs and meet the
emotional needs of our students.
On the second floor of the library is the Waldo Peirce Art Gallery
displaying 13 works of Waldo Peirce. Peirce was a world known artist
who is exhibited in major museums in the United States and Europe.
The paintings were donated in 1952 to the Central Elementary
School to thank Searsport for welcoming his children when the family
moved here. When Searsport Elementary School was opened the paintings
were moved to the upstairs of the library and the Waldo Peirce Art
Gallery was established.
